CNN Chooses Aruba to cover
Eclipse
CNN, chose Aruba as the location from where to cover the total solar eclipse. Mr. Francis
Jacobs of the Aruba Tourism Authority accompanied the CNN Travel Guide film crew on their
filming spree, before, during and after the eclipse.
The main objective of the coverage was to capture the spontaneous reactions of visitors
and locals alike. Scientists, photographers, Eclipse Chasers and even those who happened
to be on the Island by chance got an opportunity to describe how they felt about this rare
event. While most of the takes were done at Eagle Beach, Downtown Oranjestad and Seroe
Colorado were covered as well, meaning greater exposure for Aruba.CNN Travel Guide will

Rock-climbing in Aruba!
Rock-climbing is becoming a popular sport around the world and Aruba is definitely not
staying behind. Four professional Dutch rock-climbers recently visited Aruba, invited by
CLUB ACTIVE ARUBA. The Dutch champion, Eric Jacobs together with Nienke Swarts, Eric
Suiker and Nico Mathijsen were brought down to help open new "rock-climbing
routes" on the rocks around Grapefield, on the Eastern tip of Aruba, where the CLUB
ACTIVE ARUBA already conducts its practices. The rock-climbing athletes were accompanied
by LIMITS, a European rock-climbing magazine. The CLUB ACTIVE ARUBA also held a workshop
to introduce to those interested to the activity of rock-climbing and simply to enable
those already practicing the sport to be able to climb rocks all over the world. For
additional information please contact Tristan Monzon, CLUB ACTIVE ARUBA at phone:

According to Krye Flucker, staff writer for the Travel & Arts section in the Daytona
Beach News Journal (circ 130,000), "if Disney were going to design a Caribbean
Island, it would shoot for something like Aruba." Flucker goes on to describe Aruba's
natural charms such as low crime rates (compared to other Caribbean destinations), warm
and hospitable residents, and beaches free of trinket vendors. In addition he claims that
"The Disney comparison only goes so far. Aruba is real." His meticulous
descriptions range from the live iguanas "strolling nonchalantly across manicured
resort lawns to the untamed wilderness of the ocean as it crashes into the Northeast coast
of the Island.

Turtle Nesting Season
Begins in March ...
Turtle nesting season begins in March. Aruba, year round home to the Hawksbill, Green
Turtle and Loggerhead, is also visited by the largest of the sea turtle family, the
Leatherback, during the island's Turtle Nesting Season. Aruba's fields of sea grass,
accessible by shore dive, on the Island's Northwest coast provide shelter and food for
these endangered species.
