Annual Tourism Conference
of Aruba to be held March 19-21
This annual tourism conference, which introduces U.S. wholesalers, tour operators and
airlines to the product Aruba, will hold its general conference at the Seaport Conference
Center. The schedule of events is as follows:
On Thursday March 19 - Internal
Marketing and Airline meetings and opening reception at the Wyndham Aruba Beach Resort and
Casa Blanca Casino.
Friday, March 20 - General Sessions and Marketplace 1 at the Seaport
Conference Center. Reception Dinner at Bucuti, sponsored by AOA.
Saturday March 21 - Marketplace 2. San Nicolas Tour and Bar Hopping
sponsored by the San Nicolas Business Development Agency.

Aruba Planning 500th
Anniversary
1999 will mark 500 years of Aruba's encounter with the old world, and plans are being made
on how to celebrate the year.
About ten organizations, from public and private sectors, came together last week in order
to discuss several aspects of the 500th anniversary celebration. Discussions on such
aspects as how to make it an educational experience, how to attract visitors, how to
create international exposure, what activities to incorporate in the agenda, and last but
definitely not least the budget for these activities were taken into consideration.
All organizations are encouraged to organize their events around this theme. Additional
updates will be provided in next newsletters.

January &
February big months for Aruba in Canada
January and February were big months for Aruba, in Canada, as it was featured in 5 major
magazines. A two page article on the Island's history, geography, languages, tourism,
currency, food and restaurants was featured in TRAVELSCOOP, a consumer
magazine distributed across Canada.
DOCTOR'S REVIEW and TRAVELWEEK BULLETIN, focused more on
niche markets such as golf and Honeymoon on Aruba.
GSA, a trade publication covering Western Canada, featured Aruba and also
made mention of the upcoming Honeymoon promotion (One Cool Honeymoon)
In an interview with Bernard Gendron (wholesaler), in BULLETIN VOYAGES,
Aruba is featured in conjunction with American Airlines. Aruba is recognized as the
"most sold destination," due to " its safety, the standard of living
comparable to the French Canadian," and of course, "its beautiful beaches and
casinos." BULLETIN VOYAGES is a trade magazine covering all of Quebec, Maritimes,
Ontario and parts of Western Canada.

What is Utilities
Aruba N.V.?
Since January 1992, the Water & Energy
Company (W.E.B.) N.V. together with ELMAR N.V. form the foundation of Utilities Aruba N.V.
Utilities is the mother company which belongs
100% to the Aruban Government, meaning that they are the sole share holders. The main
objective of the company is to produce and distribute electricity and water (about 36,000
tons daily) efficiently.

- Aruba will be one of the islands featured in the
Houston International Festival which will take place in downtown Houston on the weekend of
April 18-19 and between April 20-24. Sunday April 19 will be Aruba Day and there will also
