The National Polesitting Championships 2014 will be great: not only because four polesitters have already committed themselves to four days and four nights of sitting on a wooden pole, but also because of the many VIP polesitters who will help raise money for this year’s charity, the Bon Nochi, Drumi Bon foundation. Starting on May 29, expect four fun-filled days with live music every night, lots of old-fashioned Dutch games, a kids corner, food and beer specials, raffles, dance shows and much more.

The record, broken time and time again by veteran polesitters Liesbeth and Shurman stands at 88 hours – will the 2014 edition see new faces, who sat more than 88 hours straight? Ah, time will tell. We know it won’t be easy, but the volunteers of the charity will do their utmost to keep everyone alert and awake during the 4-day ordeal.

Fundacion Bon Nochi Drumi bon is stimulating reading on Aruba, installing the joy of reading in young children with the help of volunteers, parents and grandparents. Established in 2009, eighteen volunteers reached 144 homes, targeting a young group of potential readers (4-8 year-olds) and their parents. Starting with home visits, the foundation now has a TV program, a DVD, workshops and a fun closing of the school year event, a pyama reading party with parents. As children’s books are now frequently published in Papiamento, the barrier of reading has been lowered considerably.

The 2014 edition of the National Polesitting Championships at Café the Plaza in the Renaissance Marketplace will once again be an unforgettable happening, so mark those four days in your calendar!
