The Carnival season has started and as is customary on November 11 at 11 seconds to 11 o’clock, the Carnival 60 for this year was initiated. Tecla Kelly, President of the Stichting Arubaanse Carnaval (SAC) opened the season with great enthusiasm. She indicated that she never expected an opening of the season so big and spectacular. She thanked the Beatrix School for their presence. This was the first time that a school was invited to witness the opening of a Carnival season. The children enjoyed themselves immensely.

On January 3rd they will officially open the period completely with different events.

SAC foresees a fantastic and very big Carnival 60! There are two new groups and possibly more will be added. Groups are also expected to come with more sections, according to Rene Ridderstaat, SAC secretary.

This will be a Carnival full of fantasy, colors, luxury and we will see how creative our local artists are again.

SAC is working closely with the Police regarding the Carnival route. The route of San Nicolaas needs a solution to avoid collision of the head and tail of the parade meeting each other. This was the case during Carnival 50 and 55.

With respect to the Parade in Oranjestad, they have begun discussing this. They will start lining up by Flora Market and hopefully the parade will end at the round-about at Wendy’s. These palms are still in the making.
In view of Aruba celebrating its 60th Carnival, there will be different activities for our seniors.

“We have to be grateful to our seniors because it is due to their support that we have Carnival today…” Rene Ridderstaat indicated that there will be different encounters to determine what exactly the plans are.
Up to now there will be a special activity of our international queen to give Carnival a special touch.

A Masquerade Dinner and Dance with two international bands, Doble R. and Robert Jeandor together with Miriam Cruz of Las Chicas del Can is also in the planning.

Following this there will be a one hour show of the entire Carnival to warm up everyone for the grand celebration.
