The 14th annual “Copa Cees Bossers” Beach Soccer Tournament kicks off on Thursday March 28th on Eagle Beach. The event transforms Aruba’s prestigious Eagle Beach into a sandy white soccer field for an amazing four days of “beasal” (Beach Soccer) featuring the best teams on the island. Players face off to showcase their talent on Aruba’s Eagle Beach, named #9 of the Best Beaches in the World.
The event is considered the main event to take place during Easter weekend (Semana Santa), and includes youth, men’s and women’s categories. Beach Soccer today is a FIFA recognized and sanctioned sport. The Juventud Tanki Leendert (JTL) soccer team has been successfully organizing this spectacular event for its 14th consecutive year. With a growing number of participants, the event aims to become as big in size as any international Beach Soccer tournament.
A total of 16 teams compete for the ultimate championship title and cash prizes. The matches begin on Thursday March 28th, 2013 at 7:30pm and will continue up till 11:00pm. On Good Friday there are no games. Matches resume on Saturday March 30th with the youth category games beginning at 10:00am (Categories: Minibaby, Baby, A and B).
The women’s and men’s games will take place after the youth finals in the late afternoon hours until late Saturday evening. On Sunday and Monday the games begin at noon, with finals being held at approximately 5:30pm on Monday. Come enjoy the magnificent sunset accompanied by a nerve wrecking final event.
“It is not an easy task to organize such an event, especially with limited funds and manpower, but with the right attitude and team, you can actually have lots of fun and run effectively as we do.” Says Roland de Cuba, president of the JTL and Copa Cees Bossers Committee.
Every year we try to enhance the event by inviting players from other countries to participate, this year so far, there are two international teams, from USA and Curacao. If you happen to be on Aruba between March 28th to April 1st you are invited to register your team @ www.beachsocceraruba.comp or www.facebook.com/beachsocceraruba
