A night of hilarity and wild antic ensued at the Aruba Entertainment Center for the first selection of Carnival royalty for Carnival 59, on Sunday evening, January 6. The selection of three sets of Prins and Pancho, (Jester) who will be the official escorts of their age-appropriate queens, is a climactic moment in each carnival season.
Young Aruban men compete to be selected in Child, Youth (teen) and Adult categories by demonstrating their talent for comedic mayhem, often deploying sarcastic, topical humor about island current events and personalities.
This year, TOB (Trip to Brazil) Carnival Group swept the competition, with their contenders taking the title in all three age categories.
The Prins and Panchos for 2013 are:
Infantil (Child) “Prins Gangnam,” Zyqu E. E. Guerrero and Pancho: ” Style,” Jahmani J.J Eisden ”
Hubenil (Youth) Prins “BA Busca” Marcel Margin Kock and Pancho “Ba Haya” Rendell Emanuel Gross
Grandi (Adult) Prins ” Bai Gaña,” Jermaine Toppenberg and Pancho “Baca,” Bryan Courtar.
The newly elected rulers of Aruban revelry will be seen in stunning costume at all upcoming parades, as well as playing an integral role in choosing the queens in their age categories. This year’s short carnival season will guarantee they will be quite busy until its end on February 12.
The next major event of Carnival 59 will be on Saturday, January 12, at the Aruba Entertainment Center, with the selection of the Roadmarch and Calypso king or queen in the Child and Youth categories.
