Optimist Sailors win Budget Marine Cup during fifth edition of Aruba International Regatta

The fifth edition of the Aruba International Regatta drew competitors from Bonaire, Curaçao, Sint Maarten and of course Aruba to the new regatta location in Oranjestad Aruba. With about 50 sails on the water and some 100 participants, this regatta is proving that Aruba has a growing and healthy sailing scene. The weather conditions in Aruba’s beautiful sailing waters were optimal for close competition during the 52 races that were held in the harbor of the capital of Aruba.

Visiting Aruba for over 100 years (combined), and still loving it!

After 100 years, combined of coming to Aruba, these ladies love it more than ever. Aruba has some long-time visitors, whose highlight of their year is an annual vacation on Aruba. A long time devotee is Elenore Kowalcheck, of Tinton Falls, N.J. whose recalls her first visit to the island with her husband John, was before her daughter and annual companion, Karen, was born. We would never tell a lady's age here, but that was some time ago.

Westin receives first IBISA award from Ministry of Health & Sports

The Westin Resort & Casino, Aruba was recently honored as the first resort on the island to receive the IBISA Award, certified by Mr. Richard Visser, Aruba’s minister of health and sports. In conjunction with PACO (Pan American Conference on Obesity), a certification program constructed over the past three years was created with the objectives of raising the prestige of tourism and the tourism industry in the region, and providing economic resources for projects within the community on the prevention of obesity through exercise and healthy eating. Certification for hotels and restaurants is granted on the basis of compliance with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), HAACP (Hazard Analysis, Critical Control Point System), and healthy food principles.

Great boat building initiative during upcoming Sailing Regatta in Aruba

Two boat builders, Yair Lichtenstein and Rik van der Vaart, will be demonstrating boat building during the upcoming International Sailing Regatta, which is held at Surfside Beach on August 10 and 11. The result of their joint effort, which can be either rowed or motored with a small outboard, will hopefully be sold during the prize-giving ceremony of the event and net proceeds will go to the sailing school for kids (SYWA).

Aruban Militia (ARUMIL) return to Aruba after great achievement at Nijmeegse Vierdaagse

The International Four Day Marches Nijmegen (or Vierdaagse) is the largest marching event in the world. It is organized every year in Nijmegen in mid-July as a means of promoting sport and exercise. Participants walk 30, 40 or 50 kilometers daily depending on their age and gender, and, on completion, receive a royally approved medal (Vierdaagsekruis). The participants are mostly civilians, but there are also a few thousand military participants.

Aruba to welcome Mrs. Universe 2013 candidates

The Westin Aruba Resort will be to venue for this year's Mrs. Universe pageant this Sunday August 11, 2013. The intriguing group of accomplished women, all married,  while often juggling demanding careers,  motherhood, and community service, are most definitely not the typical "Barbie Doll" image of the average beauty pageant, which is the principal philosophy of the event.

The fifth Aruba International Regatta is underway!

This year on August 9, 10 and 11 the fifth Aruba International Regatta will take place on Aruba. Three days of action and competition for yachts, beach cats, sunfishes, optimists, windsurfers and kite surfers; three evenings of music and parties for all participants and spectators. The sailors will compete for the Budget Marine cup for the winner in the most competitive class. This cup will be awarded for the third time this year and has a value of afl. 1000. For the youngest sailors there will be optimist races and there will be down wind races for the kite surfers and wind surfers.

Aruban swimmers put Aruba on the map in Florida

Aruba has many talented athletes, including Jordy and Patrick Groters who made a name for themselves last weekend in Ft. Lauderdale during the the 2013 International Classic Invitational obtaining silver and gold medals. Up next is the 2013 Central American and Caribbean Championship in San Jose Costa Rica where they will form part of the national selection of Aruba.
