The students in EPI’s culinary program have been working in the kitchen preparing for the Student Chef Competition portion of the Westin’s Wine, Food & Art Festival. Last year, this competition was well received and attended by hundreds of guests. Tickets for this event are $69 per person including service charge and BBO, and will be available at the concierge desk at The Westin Resort & Casino, Aruba as well as Valero Gas Station at L.G. Smith Blvd.

Last Wednesday L.G Smith’s Steak & Chop House located on the second floor of the Renaissance Mall participated in a well visited Meat Festival organized by Ling & Sons Supermarket. The event had a duration of 4 days and served as a showcase for the primary products that LG Smith’s Steak & Chop House has to offer, which is the Certified Angus beef, steak and high quality wine.

Aruba and the Westin Resort are both very proud to have hosted the Mrs. Universe 2013 Pageant over the past week, culminating in the crowning of two new queens on Sunday evening, August 11. The Mrs. Universe event was founded with the idea to glorify all aspects of feminine beauty and accomplishment, with the winners decided not only by their grace, poise and appearance, but success in forging careers and involvement in community service. Contestants range in age from 25-45 and must be married; quite a few are mothers several times over.

Aruba Bucuti Yacht Club Aruba this year will be hosting their 40th International Sailfish Tournament on August 22, 23, 24 and 25th. The event will be bigger than ever and will be dedicated to Mr. Irving Richardson. They will also have the first time ever grand prize of $20.000 winner takes all. Special thanks goes to the local brewery Balashi, with its award winning Chill pilsner, and the Department of Fisheries and Agriculture Santa Rosa for their generosity and support.

The fifth edition of the Aruba International Regatta drew competitors from Bonaire, Curaçao, Sint Maarten and of course Aruba to the new regatta location in Oranjestad Aruba. With about 50 sails on the water and some 100 participants, this regatta is proving that Aruba has a growing and healthy sailing scene. The weather conditions in Aruba’s beautiful sailing waters were optimal for close competition during the 52 races that were held in the harbor of the capital of Aruba.

Two boat builders, Yair Lichtenstein and Rik van der Vaart, will be demonstrating boat building during the upcoming International Sailing Regatta, which is held at Surfside Beach on August 10 and 11. The result of their joint effort, which can be either rowed or motored with a small outboard, will hopefully be sold during the prize-giving ceremony of the event and net proceeds will go to the sailing school for kids (SYWA).

In collaboration with LG Smith Steak and Chop House, Ling & Sons Aruba Supermarket launched the "Nice to Meet U" festival which will run until August 11, 2013. The subsequent days will feature quality meat tastings and wine pairings from various restaurants from 12-7pm at Ling & Sons.
