Cees Verwater has won the 2014 National Polesitting Championships, which were held this past week at Café the Plaza in the Renaissance Marketplace. The ex-marine proved that he was the strongest, not only physically, but also mentally, breaking the record of 79.45 hours. Cees stepped off his pole in remarkably good shape. He was cheered by a good crowd; they greatly enjoyed the superb performance of salsa band Tsunami earlier that evening.

Cees was the sole remaining polesitter on Sunday evening: Café the Plaza’s Nana Tromp had stepped off her pole 9 hours earlier, clocking a time of 78.35 hours. Alrick Kock sat for 77.30 hours, while Soerma Harinandansingh sat 73.48 hours. Rick Dentenre was the first to get off after 67 hours. Congrats to all the polesitters; they have done a terrific job. The polesitters received great support from the VIP-sitters, among them Minister Michelle Hooijboer, Youth Carnival Queen Dana Arends, Olga Buckley’s daughter, Frans de Rooij, Indra Zaandam and many, many more. Well done!

The good cause of the 2014 polesitting event was Bon Nochi, Drumi Dushi; president Olga Buckley and her team can look back on a fantastic job, which hopefully will have generated a nice sum of money. Bon Nochi, Drumi Dushi promotes reading to and by young children.
