ORANJESTAD — With emphasis on bringing the community closer to our heritage and history, the National Archaeological Museum of Aruba, the Historical Museum and Rancho Foundation, this year again is opening their doors to the general public on National Flag and Anthem Day, March 18th.
They have chosen “Collections make Connections” as the general theme for 2014. The theme has come from the International Council of Museums (ICOM) to emphasize that the collections kept and presented by our Museum is what connects the community to the customs and traditions of the past; they connect different ethnic groups in the community, different generations, and inhabitants of different countries in our region and even connects continents together. The collections are of artifacts as well as of stories, information and even constructions.
The National Archaeological Museum will open her exposition halls with staff and volunteers eager to show visitors on March 18 all of their favorite objects. There are about 600 objects in the permanent exposition.
Those who have visited the museum before will gain new insight as they see the objects from perhaps a new angle. It will also allow entire families to spend pleasant times together as they observe the objects and hear the stories recounted of how they collected the items and a bit of the history of each piece.
At the Historical Museum in the Fort Zoutman, our young people will present “Xpo 1880.” This is a perfect example of how an exposition can connect the future generation with that of the past. Since the opening of the “Expo 1880” it has been visited by schools and others.
For all who have not seen it as yet, you have an opportunity to do so on March 18. The “Community Museum” in San Nicolas will also be open to the public.
Together with the Museums, Rancho Foundation will also be active in the “Forno di Kalki” – and with the miniature boat competitions. In the upcoming days we will share more details, hours, etc of all these activities.
