Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA), represented by AAA CEO Mr. James Fazio and AAA Director Operations Mr. Jurgen Benschop together with the Government of Aruba represented by Prime Minister Eman and Fondo Desaroyo Aruba represented by Mr. Edwin Roos and Mr. Glenn Thode signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the realization of the Happy Flow project during the Green Aruba where Europe meets the Americas Conference being held in Aruba.
The Happy Flow project, which was announced last year, makes use of facial recognition technology and state-of-the-art gates, and aims to enable a seamless, faster and more intuitive airport experience, which does not require passengers to present their passport and boarding pass on numerous occasions during their airport journey. This innovative project has no precedent in the world yet, making Aruba Airport a leader in this area. This partnership was drawn up and agreed on by five collaborating parties; The Government of Aruba, The Government of the Netherlands, Schiphol Group., KLM and AAA N.V.
The main reason for the signing of the MoU is that the project will be financed partly by AAA and partly by the Government of Aruba (via the FDA). AAA will be responsible for the local IT and physical infrastructure required for the installation and functioning of the project, such as network cabling, electric wiring and preparation for the placement of the material.
