As one of the most popular destinations of the Caribbean, Aruba takes great pride in preserving her natural flora and fauna while simultaneously providing tourists with fun activities and authentic experiences. A great example for this certainly is the Lionfish and Wine tasting event which kicked off on November 30th, 2014 upstairs at Hadicurari Beach.
“Lionfish is an invasive species which threatens to displace our local species of fish. To prevent this from happening, the indigenous Indo- Pacific Lionfish population has to be controlled” explains Marine Biologist Byron Boekhoudt.
Lionfish is a very tasty, firm white fish with a higher concentration of heart – healthy Omega -3 fatty acids. Scoring more health benefits than Red Snapper, Grouper, Mahi Mahi and Wahoo, Lionfish can be considered the Salmon of Coral Reefs.
To create awareness, raise funds and let people enjoy a culinary sunset event, the Aruba Marine Park Foundation and Aruba Wine and Dine partnered up to host the Island’s first Lionfish and Wine Tasting event where guests were offered several tastings of lionfish and a lovely wine pairing courtesy of Romar Trading.
Talented Sushi chef Andriani Geerman, owner and operator of E Sushi Shap of Tanki Lendert delighted guests with his popular restaurant’s most requested Lionfish rolls. Ilja Cybulski, International chef and avid diver along with food blogger /chef Joost Boerman circulated tasty and creative Lionfish dishes sharing recipes to a sold out crowd.
