Las Vegas might be the city most synonymous with gambling, but it’s certainly not the only destination worthy of a spot on a player’s bucket list. USA TODAY 10Best teamed up with a panel of travel agents specializing in gambling travel to find the best gambling destinations on the planet, and the results are in.
After four weeks of voting, USA TODAY 10Best readers have chosen Atlantic City as their favorite gambling destination. The gambling capital of the Eastern seaboard boats eight major casino resorts, as well as an appealing beach boardwalk setting.
Runner-up for Best Gambling Destination was Connecticut, a state where you’ll also find the second- and third-place finishers for ‘Best U.S. Casino.’
The top 10 winners in the category Best Gambling Destination are as follows:
1. Atlantic City
2. Connecticut
3. Las Vegas
4. Monte Carlo, Monaco
5. Reno
6. San Juan, Puerto Rico
7. On a Cruise
8. Aruba
9. Nassau, Bahamas
10. Niagara Falls, N.Y./Ontario
A panel of experts picked the initial 20 nominees, and the top 10 winners were determined by popular vote. Experts Sarah Lee (TraveLee) and Brandi Poss (Mexico Group Travel) were chosen based on their extensive knowledge of casino and gambling travel.
Aruba is one of the hottest and ideal destinations for a gambling getaway. It is the perfect combination of expectations and exhilaration as the bell sound and the lights light up with each win. The island is known as being the birthplace of the Caribbean Stud Poker, which is played against the house rather than the other players. The casinos on the island include everything from hosting poker tournaments to slot machines, nickel machines, blackjack, the roulette wheel and many more. Many of the casinos of the island can be found in the resorts along Palm Beach or in downtown Oranjestad.
