Aruba‘s Miniature Boat Foundation (AMS) was proud to welcome enthusiasts of the pastime from Bonaire, Curacao and St Maarten for their annual International Miniature Boat Races conducted from Governor’s Beach in Oranjestad on Sunday, July 28.
The event was conducted in the honor of island pioneer in the pastime, Rudolfo St. Jago (RIP) founder of the AMS. There were over seventy-five entries competing in three divisions: 30-inch, 35-inch and 40-inch model boats. The lovingly grafted miniature vessels operate strictly on sail power, there are no small motors or remote controls used in directing the. Participates use fishing line to direct and control their entries.
This pleasant family day was highlighted by the awarding of the trophies by Aruba’s Minister of Health and Sports, Dr. Richard Visser. Aruba’s dominated all the first place spots and claimed all the trophies in the 35-inch category. Nine captains from Bonaire entered a total of 20 boats in the competition and the one captain from Curacao, Aymerick Albertus, entered 3 boats.
He took the title of sub-champion in the 30-inch category. The single captain from St. Maarten traveled to Aruba with two of his model boats.

30 Inch Division
First Place – Jeandrick Albertus-Boat- Top Gun (Aruba)
Second Place – Aymerick Albertus -Boat- Dolor di Cabes (Curacao)
Third Place – Elvis Kock -Boat- Mojito (Aruba)
35 Inch Division
First Place – Elvis Kock -Boat- Pinocho (Aruba)
Second Place – Wilfrido Albertus -Boat- No Name (Aruba)
Third Place – Jacinto Martis -Boat- Big Star (Aruba)
40 Inch Division
First Place – Jacinto Martis -Boat- Buchi Cunucu (Aruba)
Second Place – Jerry Domacasse -Boat- Jaja (Bonairo)
Third Place – Roy Winklaar -Boat- Double Trouble 1 (Bonaire)
