This past weekend Aruba’s Tumba Festival took place. In a packed and animated Entertainment Center, Aruba’s 60th Carnaval was introduced to its King of Tumba 2014. The young Jerino Ridderstap convinced the judges with his tumba, not only with the lyrics but also composition, arrangement and presentation made up for the grand winner.
Best Costume on this night went to veteran Tumba competitor Chico Kock; Best Uniformed Band went to “Hijos del Sol.” Mark Gonzalez was named “Rookie of the Year.” The Craziest Tumba Prize: Manuel da Silva.
The Finalists of the night were: 5th place: Marlon Willems, followed by Roderick ‘Rocco’ Franken in 4th, Rene Franken, 3rd, 2nd: Chendell Beaumont and the grand winner in 1st place: Jerino ‘Bass’ Ridderstap.
Jerino won with his song “Applauso p’e” – Applause for Aruba’s Grand Carnaval. He was accompanied by his band D’-Licious.’
Sponsors of the Tumba Festival 2014 were: Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA), Setar, Balashi and Aruba Bank. A Comittee in SAC were in charge of organizing the festival which turned out to be a high quality and animated festival.
