Its name is romantic, yet adventurous, its taste overwhelming and unique: Johnnie Walker’s most exclusive bottle of whisky is called the Odyssey. Towering above the Johnnie Walker Gold, Blue and Platinum, this super special Odyssey bottle now occupies the top spot of the corner at the bar of Taste of Belgium Restaurant in the Palm Beach Plaza Mall, overlooking the action left and right. For a shot one would have to dole out AWG. 400,–; the entire bottle will set you back AWG. 5.000,–. Anyone interested? At least you can view the bottle and if you’re lucky the bartender will let you take a picture with it.
Aruba received only four bottles of Odyssey as a kind of prelude – the island is holding its breath for the arrival of the fabled 157-foot luxury sailing vessel, the Odyssey which is re-enacting Johnnie Walker’s travels throughout the world. The ship, the host hotel for a large number of celebs, will be moored at Oranjestad’s harbor on February 15 and 16. If you are a whisky lover, keep those dates blocked, as something special will surely be coming up surrounding the Odyssey.
Three carefully selected single malts, married in European oak casks, have been used to create this strong, malt-driven whisky. Tasting notes describe it as follows: a powerfully rich whisky with hints of honey, berries and caramel, full-bodied and inviting on the palate, yet mellow, smoky and lingering in the aftertaste. Master blender Jim Beveridge searched high and low to find the perfect three malts in Sctoland: they needed to have the right provenance and pedigree to create the aromas, tastes and sensation that he was looking for.
The Odyssey yacht will be in Trinidad and Tobago early February, where parties and events will surround its arrival. Then the trip will take the ship to our shores for more of the same. Johnnie Walker is one of the world’s number-one selling Scotch whisky brands – it is enjoyed in more than 200 countries worldwide. John Walker, who founded the business in 1820, would be amazed to see that through the hard work of three generations his whisky has become a globally recognized brand that defines the Scotch whisky category.
The gorgeous Odyssey bottle can be seen throughout the day and evening at Taste of Belgium.
