Renaissance Marketplace is ‘the place to be’: a variety of charming shops, bars and restaurants. The owner of this beautiful complex was missing one thing: a shady spot right in the middle of this square.
He approached the Dutch company Poly-Ned and they were asked to come up with a creative solution to this open space: a roofing that withstands sun, rain and gale force. In addition to fulfilling these functions, there was the desire that this roof would be a landmark, visible on the island and from the sea.
In close cooperation with the customer Poly-Ned made various designs and calculations, and ultimately the choice fell on a round version, with a large pointed white roof. The complete production of the galvanized steel frame and roof took place in the Netherlands. Everything was carefully measured and fitted together before the whole was shipped in 6 containers from the Netherlands. Own technicians were flown and welcoming housed in the Renaissance hotel. So as to provide the least possible inconvenience they put the huge steel structure together during the night.
The canopy stands on legs of 8 meters, and measures a total height of 18 meters and a diameter of 26 meters. At short notice Philips will provide the lighting of the roof, after which a functional and attractive interpretation of the Marketplace has been established.
