The Board of Stimami Sterilisami Foundation extends our heartfelt gratitude to the Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association (AHATA), led by CEO & President Tisa Lasorte, along with the esteemed tourism leaders and members of AHATA for their generous donation of Afl. 5,000. This donation empowers our ongoing efforts to address the critical challenge of stray animal overpopulation on the island through our national spay and neuter program, internationally recognized for being the most effective and humane approach to reducing the stray population.
Stray animals present a considerable public health and safety risk, impacting both our local community and the experiences of our valued visitors. Unsterilized dogs and cats reproduce at an exponential rate, with one female dog and her offspring capable of producing 67,000 puppies in just six years, while a cat can lead to 11,606,077 kittens in the same period. By addressing this issue head-on, we not only significantly reduce the number of animals suffering on the streets but also enhance the vibrant community and tourism landscape of our island.
Critical Impact of Stimami Sterilisami’s Work
Since 2016, Stimami Sterilisami has proudly funded and subsidized over 40,000 sterilizations, dramatically reducing the potential number of stray animals and mitigating future suffering. Each sterilization prevents not only thousands of unwanted pets from contributing to the overpopulation crisis but also provides health benefits to each animal. Spayed and neutered pets face lower risks of certain cancers and infections, leading to a healthier, longer life.
Comprehensive Community Support
Thanks to AHATA’s support, we are able to continue our vital work. Each donation allows us to expand our reach by offering subsidized sterilization services, which now cover 100% of the sterilization fees for rescue organizations and 50% for individual pet owners, free microchipping, and educational programs on responsible pet ownership. These efforts are essential for maintaining public safety, preventing the spread of disease, and ensuring a safe and caring environment for our animals.
AHATA’s Role in Fostering a Sustainable Future:
“We are profoundly grateful for AHATA’s support, which not only helps protect countless animals but also safeguards the reputation of Aruba as a premier holiday destination,” said Ewald Biemans, President of Stimami Sterilisami Foundation. “Together, we are making a significant impact, ensuring Aruba remains a safe, healthy place for everyone.”
