Summary
The Red Cross of Aruba was established on October 31, 1957. Red Cross Aruba is affiliated with the Netherlands Red Cross, and therefore, also the International Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent.
Description
The main task of the Red Cross is to provide humanitarian assistance wherever needed. The prime motivation of the RC response to disaster is to alleviate human suffering amongst the most vulnerable. Aid is given regardless of the race, creed, nationality, religion or political belief of the recipients and without adverse distinction of any kind. Red Cross Aruba is a non-profit organization which for 99% consists of volunteers.
The Red Cross Aruba provides many types of assistance to the community, like:
- Medical assistance during sport events, concerts, school activities etc
- Relief to families during calamities
- Provide shelter to families during calamities
- First Aid & CPR courses
- Assist the Public Health Department when necessary with ambulance service or manpower
